A declaration was signed on the will to establish the Wielkopolska Hydrogen Valley. The signatories were, among others: local governments, scientific institutions and enterprises.

The Greater Poland Hydrogen Valley will enable the use of the region's potential in the pursuit of active integration with domestic technological solutions into the global supply and value chain of the hydrogen-based economy. It will also strengthen the competitive position of Wielkopolska.

The declaration was signed by representatives of the voivodeship - headed by Marshal Marek Woźniak and Jacek Bogusławski, chairman of the Wielkopolska Hydrogen Platform - presidents of the largest cities in Wielkopolska, university rectors and business representatives.

In December 2020, the Board of the Wielkopolska Region approved the Regional Innovation Strategy for Wielkopolska 2030. Its most important goal is the development of a zero-emission economy, with particular emphasis on hydrogen. The strategy takes into account the provisions of applicable European and national documents.

Wielkopolska has already created the first strategy of climate neutrality - at the beginning it was related to the eastern part of the region.

- Hydrogen-based technologies are modern solutions that we should support. I hope that it will soon be possible to purchase 84 hydrogen-powered buses for Poznań. We have already sent the application for funding. If the project is successful, we will share our experiences with other towns in the region. Taking care of air quality and developing alternative energy sources is our duty - emphasized Jacek Jaśkowiak, Mayor of the City of Poznań.

MPK Poznań sent an application for co-financing the purchase of 84 hydrogen buses to the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. If it receives support, it will start the purchasing procedure - then the buses could appear in Poznań in the years 2022-2025, 38 vehicles with a standard length of 12 meters and 46 articulated vehicles, 18 meters long.

The signatories of the declaration are: the Marshal of the Wielkopolska Province, the chairman of the Wielkopolska Hydrogen Platform, the presidents of: Poznań, Konin, Kalisz, Piła, Leszno and Ostrów Wielkopolski, representatives of the university authorities: the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań, the Poznań University of Technology and the University of Life Sciences, as well as business representatives: Zespół Elektrowni Pątnów-Adamów-Konin S.A., Solaris Bus & Coach sp.z o.o., the Greater Poland Council of Thirty and the Regional Development Agency in Konin.
