In connection with Poznan's efforts to gain accreditation as a ‘Wetland Friendly City’, the conference furthermore aims to promote the protection and wise use of urban and peri-urban wetlands, in line with this year's motto: ‘Wetlands and people: intertwined destinies’.
In connection with the efforts to obtain ‘Wetland Friendly City’ accreditation, the anticipated ecological effect to be achieved through the conference is primarily to add to and increase knowledge of the ecology and potential that lies in marshes, wetlands, reedbeds, alders and riparian areas. It is also to encourage an attitude of responsibility for the present and future state of wetlands and the integration of scientific bodies, NGOs and local authorities into environmental activities.
