Ambitious action in climate change adaptation - in focus for the EU
Deputy Climate and Environment Minister Krzysztof Bolesta, representing the European Union, opened the ministerial debate at the fourth Copenhagen Climate Ministerial.
In his speech, he stressed that the climate plans that will be submitted to the Climate Convention this year should set out a clear transition path, affordable and serving citizens.
The Deputy Minister also highlighted the importance of energy independence in a geopolitical context, emphasising that energy transition translates into savings and a clean and healthy environment for citizens.
In his speech, he presented the achievements of the European Union, which has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 30% since 1990. He also highlighted Poland's progress in the energy transition: by 2024, the share of coal in the energy mix had fallen to a record low of 60.5% and energy production from renewable energy sources (RES) had reached 27%.
Thanks to effective citizen support programmes, Poland already has one and a half million prosumers using photovoltaic installations on their homes and successfully reducing their energy bills.
These achievements are the result of a consistent energy policy, investment in infrastructure and support for innovative technologies.
Deputy Minister Krzysztof Bolesta concluded his speech with a call for further strengthening of international cooperation in the fight against climate change and for concrete action to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, including in particular from major emitters. He stressed that Poland stands ready to continue sharing experience and supporting global efforts towards sustainable development.
